Pittsburgh Kenyukai is a community-focused kendo dojo based in Pittsburgh, PA. Born from the spirit of the University of Pittsburgh Kendo Club, our dojo is more than just a place to practice; it's a vibrant community dedicated to enhancing the Kendo experience throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area. Our team comprises dedicated instructors and practitioners, boasting decades of combined experience, with many having honed their skills on regional, national, and even global stages. Whether you're a seasoned Kendo enthusiast or someone just stepping onto the path, we open our doors wide to all, eager to share the traditions, discipline, and camaraderie that make Kendo an exhilarating journey.

Code of conduct
General Dojo Etiquette:

Bow when entering and leaving the dojo.

Maintain a clean and presentable appearance.

Wear clean and proper attire: athletic wear (newcomers), kendo gi & hakama (members).

Address instructors as "Sensei” and “Senpai.”

Acknowledge and Respond to instruction with “Hai!”

Be punctual and prepared for all classes.

Avoid unnecessary talking or distractions during practice.

Show respect for the dojo, equipment, members, and traditions.
Training Practices:

Follow all instructions and guidelines safely.

Be mindful of your safety and the safety of others.

Handle and store shinai (bamboo swords), bogu, and other equipment with care.

Train with focus, intensity, and a positive attitude.

Report any injuries or health concerns to the instructor.
Interpersonal Conduct:

Treat all members with respect and courtesy, regardless of rank, age, gender, or background.

Support and encourage your fellow kendoka.

Avoid gossip, negativity, or any behavior that disrupts the dojo's harmony.

Be receptive to feedback and instruction.

Strive for self-improvement and continuous learning.
Additional Considerations:

No loose jewelry during practice.

Trim toenails short.
-
If you have any questions or concerns, address them respectfully to the instructor.

Help maintain the cleanliness and order of the dojo.
